LIMERICK

Pat Scully will have been counting the days until the league resumed as he seeks to capitalise on the momentum generated by defeating table-topping Longford and closing the gap to just one point as we enter the business end of the season.

With Longford facing a tricky away tie to Finn Harps the manager will see the visit of Wexford Youths as an ideal opportunity to take the points that will see them leapfrog their midlands rivals and gain top spot in the league.

Speaking to the Limerick Post Scully was quick to remind his troops that a good start is imperative for his team to build on the win in Flancare Park.

“We played really well to get a deserved win away to Longford Town before the break to go a point off top. We now have to continue our good form into the restart of the league against a good Wexford Youths side and we know nothing short of a professional performance will suffice.”

The return of Jeffrey Judge will give Limerick a lift as they attempt to make it five wins in the league on the spin, although he will serve a two match suspension incurred while playing for Pike Rovers.

WEXFORD YOUTHS

Wexford Youths’s form took a downward turn as the mid-season break approached and the team has dropped to fifth place in the league.

They make the daunting trip to Limerick knowing that any further points dropped will see a season that had promised so much descend into mid-table inanity as they attempt to bounce back from league defeats to Athlone Town and Mervue United.

Speaking to the club website Shane Keegan was adamant that his team would go for the win on Shannonside as attempting to play for the draw would be play in to hands of the division’s form side.

“If you attempt to stand off them and play for the draw they will pull you to pieces.... You have to get in their faces and take the risks that may backfire on you.”

Wexford will have to find their shooting boots as they have failed to find the net in their last three league away fixtures and this is a problem they must remedy if they hope to get back into contention for a play-off berth.
