Saintly Flood

Brian Kerr has been doing the rounds this season. Seen at a myriad of grounds, he has dove head first into his role as Director of Football of St Pat's this season. While St Pats - having turned professional - assemble a squad already comfortably leading the eircom Premier Division, Kerr has been scouting new recruits to keep their momentum going.

So it was no surprise at Tolka Park last week that Brian Kerr was seen in the stands to see Shels’ beat promotion rivals Waterford United two nil. It was an impressive display by the hosts, as they controlled the game from start to finish, and no one impressed more than Anto ‘Bisto’ Flood. The murmurings at the ground were that Kerr was there to see that man Bisto, who won the game for Shels in the closing stages.

Bisto has taken the First Division by storm, scoring ten goals in nine games, eleven in ten if you count the League cup, and looks a dead cert to finish the league's top scorer. Bisto scored a second half hat trick on Friday away to Limerick 37, as his goal tally came to over 70% of Shels’ total goals scored at this early stage of the season. His impressive partnership with David Freeman has continued to flourish.

Bisto signed for Shels’ halfway through last season and his goals helped the reds finish strongly after a tough first year in the First Division. One of Dermot Keely’s main tasks could be holding on to the Dubliner this season. And the Tolka faithful will by anxious that he doesn’t move on, as without his goals it might be too difficult to keep pace with unbeaten Dundalk at the top of the eircom First Division.
