Kate Mooney joins Hearts from Lewes

Mooney signs an 18-month-deal with Women’s Scottish Premiership side after a five month spell in England.

The 24-year-old started her career with Shelbourne where she spent five years, before moving on to DLR Waves and scored ten times in 2022.

Her form saw her sign Peamount United in 2023, where see went on to score 9 times in 14 games for the club.

However, last Autumn she departed the Peas to sign for Women’s English Championship side Lewes.

She struggled to make an impact at the club, lining out for the Rooks only 9 appearances, with only being a start.

Now the former Republic of Ireland youth international is on the move again, this time north of the border to Edinburgh.

“I am delighted that Kate has agreed to join us.” Hearts manager Eva Olid said.

“The quality in our squad continues to grow and Kate further enhances our attacking quality.

“It is important for us to have good squad depth in every position and Kate is certainly the type of player that will help us achieve our goals for the second half of the season.”

Women’s Head of Recruitment Sean Burt spoke on the signing of Mooney, “Kate is a player we’ve always shown interest in and have previously explored the option signing.

“She possesses a lot of the qualities that we’ve previously seen to be successful in this league. She’s strong, hard-working, great in the air and has been extremely prolific throughout her short career.

“I am very much looking forward to working with her over the next 18 months.”

Elsewhere, Mooney’s former Peas teammate Tara O’Hanlon completed a move to Manchester City on Wednesday.
