Charlton Athletic have successfully signed 23-year-old midfielder Conor Coventry from West Ham United for an undisclosed fee.

Coventry, who has signed a three-and-a-half year deal with the Addicks, joins following a 2022/23 season that included his Premier League debut and victory in the UEFA Europa Conference League.

Coventry, also a star in the Championship with Rotherham United, becomes Charlton's third January signing, following Tyreeq Bakinson and Lewis Fiorini.

Speaking about his move, Coventry said, "The vision of the gaffer and the people behind the scenes with where they want to take the club [attracted me]. I’m really looking forward to buying into what is going on here and being a part of it."

Head Coach Michael Appleton, who previously worked with Coventry at Lincoln City, expressed his satisfaction with the signing.

"I'm delighted we've been able to sign Conor," he said. Appleton praised Coventry's skills, professionalism, and approach to the game, noting his excellent ball control and passing abilities.

Technical Director Andy Scott also highlighted the significance of Coventry's signing. "He's a player we've been chasing for a long time... It's an exciting signing for the club and I'm sure the fans will enjoy watching him on the pitch," Scott stated.

Coventry, who joined West Ham at age 10, progressed through their ranks and made his senior debut in 2018.

He has been recognised for his performances, including being named the Football Association of Ireland’s U21s Player of the Year in 2021.

After loan spells with Peterborough United and MK Dons, Coventry made his Premier League debut against Manchester City.

He joined Rotherham on loan in January 2023, starting 16 times in the Championship, and is now set to contribute to Charlton Athletic’s ambitions in the coming seasons.
