Charlton Athletic welcome Lewis Fiorini on loan from Manchester City

Charlton Athletic has announced the loan signing of Lewis Fiorini from Manchester City for the rest of the season.

Fiorini, a 21-year-old creative midfielder, is the second player to join Charlton today, following Tyreeq Bakinson's arrival from Sheffield Wednesday.

Fiorini is familiar with Charlton's Head Coach Michael Appleton, having previously worked with him at Lincoln City and Blackpool.

The young midfielder has also represented Scotland at various youth levels, including U16, U17, U19, and U21.

Upon completing the deal, Fiorini expressed his enthusiasm. "I'm buzzing to join Charlton," he said. "It is a big club and having worked with the gaffer before, the move was attractive to me."

He recalled his initial experience in English football under Appleton, praising the coach's confidence and trust in him.

"He made me feel confident and put his trust in me, which as a player is everything you want," Fiorini added.

Appleton shared his excitement about reuniting with Fiorini. "Lewis is a talented player," he commented.

"He is one of the best I have worked with that receives it on his back foot and wants to play forward."

Appleton also highlighted Fiorini's character and versatility. "He’s a top-class character... He’s got a nasty side to him as well - he’ll put his foot in."

Fiorini, a Manchester native, joined City at age seven and progressed through their youth system.

His senior football journey began with NAC Breda in the 2020/21 season, where he impressed with five goals and four assists.

This performance led to a new five-year deal with Manchester City in the summer of 2021.

Following his spell in the Netherlands, Fiorini impressed under Appleton at Lincoln during the 2021/22 season and featured 13 times for Blackpool in the Championship last term.

In related news, Slobodan Tedić has returned to Manchester City from his season-long loan at Charlton.

The striker made 17 appearances and scored twice during his time with the Addicks.
