Shels sign Liam Burt on loan from Rovers

Liam Burt has made the move north across the Liffey, joining Damien Duff’s Shelbourne on loan from Shamrock Rovers until the end of the 2024 season.

The 24-year-old Glaswegian made 16 appearances for the hoops last year during a season heavily interrupted by injury following a move to Tallaght from arch-rivals, Bohemians.

Having also represented Scotland at youth level, Burt is one of only six post-war players to have played for both Celtic and Rangers.

Speaking after his move Burt told the club’s website that he is, “Delighted to be signing for Shels, really glad to get it done after a few weeks of talking and hearing the manager’s plans for the club.

“I’m really looking forward to getting in and meeting the lads now and working hard in pre-season training. I’m getting back fully fit now and injury free and can’t wait to get the season started and help Shelbourne hopefully progress again after the back of a successful season last year.

“It’s a massive club Shels and I’m excited to get playing in front of the fans, it’s always been a great atmosphere each time I’ve played at Tolka.”

Shelbourne’s latest signing adds to a growing list of quality additions to Damien Duff’s young squad that includes the likes of Keith Ward, Sean Gannon, and John Martin.

Duff vocalised his delight at the new acquisition which he believes has the “X-factor”.

“Liam is a special player who has an absolute x-factor and we are delighted that he has signed,” he said. “He brings another dynamic to our attacking strengths and I’m sure he will excite the fans when they see him in action.”
