Aston Villa has been dealt a setback, with the club confirming that England international Tyrone Mings has suffered a serious knee injury.

The defender was taken off on a stretcher during the first half of Villa's recent match against Newcastle United, sparking concerns over the extent of his injury.

Unai Emery, Villa's manager, expressed his distress the day prior to the announcement, noting the significant challenges his squad has faced recently. "This week is very sad for us. With Emiliano Buendia, today with Tyrone Mings. We lost [5-1 defeat to Newcastle] today but there was something that was more than we wanted but the worst today was the injury with Tyrone," said Emery.

Regarding Mings' condition, Emery revealed, "We don't know exactly about his injury, but it doesn't look good. Tomorrow we will scan him. [After] the first analysis, the doctor is telling us we have to wait for the scan, but it doesn't look good."

Scans have since confirmed the gravity of Mings' knee damage, requiring surgical intervention and a long rehabilitation process.

Emery, while visibly concerned, emphasised the need to regroup, "We have to take some days in reflection and then prepare for the game against Everton."
