Portsmouth have strengthened their midfield by securing the services of Alex Robertson from Manchester City on a season-long loan.

The promising 20-year-old Australian midfielder is set to don the number eight jersey during his tenure at Fratton Park.

Robertson, born in Scotland, migrated to Australia during his youth and later returned to England in 2015.

His football journey began with Manchester United, but he soon switched to their city rivals, Manchester City, in 2017.

The talented midfielder had a loan spell with Ross County in 2021, where he made five appearances.

John Mousinho, the Blues boss, spoke highly of the newest addition to his squad.

He commented, “Alex is a dynamic attacking midfielder who comes here off the back of an excellent season with Manchester City’s under-21s."

Mousinho added, “We wanted that eight/ten who is able to really affect games, and it’s another piece of business that I’m incredibly happy with this summer."

With a foot in two footballing cultures, Robertson previously represented England at the youth level. However, following in his father Mark's footsteps, he later shifted his allegiance to Australia. His national debut came in a friendly against Ecuador this past March.

Highlighting the significance of Robertson's potential, Mousinho mentioned, “I know that City have high hopes for him and he was involved in Pep’s matchday squads at the end of last season, which is no easy feat.”
