Portsmouth have announced the signing of former Huddersfield goalkeeper Ryan Schofield.

The 23-year-old England youth international has joined Pompey on a one-year contract after leaving Huddersfield at the end of the last season.

Pompey's manager John Mousinho expressed his delight over the new addition to the squad.

“Ryan excelled as a youngster at Huddersfield and featured more than 30 times in the Championship. He's brave, a good size and can also kick well, so we’re delighted to bring in someone of his pedigree with experience at a higher level,” he commented.

Schofield's journey in professional football began at Huddersfield where he made 35 appearances, with 33 of those in the Championship, England's second-tier football league.

The goalkeeper spent last season on loan with Hibernian and Crawley Town, following previous loan spells at FC United of Manchester, Telford, Notts County, and Livingston.

Schofield has represented England up to the under-20 level and was part of the squad that won the Toulon Tournament in 2017, where he saved a penalty during the shoot-out against Ivory Coast in the final.
