Luton Town has announced the signing of right-sided defender Issa Kaboré, on a season-long loan from Manchester City.

At just 22, Kaboré comes with an impressive international record, having already secured 28 caps for his native Burkina Faso.

The Burkina Faso international spent last season on-loan at Ligue 1 Marseille, featuring four times in the Champions League.

Rob Edwards, the Hatters boss, expressed his delight over the signing, stating, "This is a really exciting signing and a big coup for the club, so I’d like to thank everyone involved for getting it over the line."

He went on to comment on the high praises from their colleagues at Manchester City, "We’ve had a lot of good feedback from the people we know at Manchester City, they really like him, and we think he’s someone who’s now more than ready for Premier League football."

Edward also added, "He’s an athlete and I think he’ll suit the way we want to play. He comes with a good level of experience and played 29 times in all competitions last year for a team that finished third in France, so we’re very excited."

A native of Bobo-Dioulasso, the second largest city in Burkina Faso, Kaboré began his professional football career at Mechelen in Belgium in 2019, before moving to Manchester City the following year.

He returned to Mechelen in the 2020/21 season, making 27 appearances in the Belgian top flight. He then joined French outfit Troyes, where he featured 31 times in the French top flight.

His performances did not go unnoticed and resulted in a move to Marseille, where he made 22 appearances in Ligue 1 and scored in their 2-2 draw against Strasbourg. Kaboré also featured in four of Marseille's Champions League group stage ties.

Internationally, Kaboré made his debut for Burkina Faso at the tender age of 19 and has since featured 28 times for his country, netting twice.

His exploits in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations led to him being named Best Young Player of the tournament, as his side reached the semi-finals.
