Drogheda United has confirmed the signing of former academy player Kyle Robinson from Shelbourne.

Robinson, 20, made a name for himself in Drogheda's U17 and U19 squads back in 2018 and 2019.

He later moved to St. Patrick’s Athletic where he was part of National League title victories at both U17 and U19 levels. Robinson then signed his first professional contract with the Saints in January 2021.

A subsequent loan spell at Wexford in 2021 saw Robinson scoring nine goals. On his return to St. Patrick’s Athletic in 2022, Robinson made his league debut for St. Patrick’s Athletic, scoring in a 4-0 win against Drogheda.

Robinson then transferred to Shelbourne ahead of the 2023 season. He made his first league start in a 1-1 draw with Drogheda in May, and also netted three times in the Leinster Senior Cup this season against Dundalk and Bohemians.

Robinson expressed his delight at returning to his former club, “It’s a place that I’ve kept very close to my heart since being here at a young age. I’m delighted to be back at the club and hopefully I can help bring success, and joy to the fans, and for myself, goals and playing time,” he told droghedaunited.ie.

Drogheda United Manager Kevin Doherty echoed Robinson’s enthusiasm, stating, “I’m delighted to get Kyle signed. Obviously we’ve been looking for a centre forward and he fits the bill well. His work rate too, he definitely fits the profile of what we’ve been looking for, so I’m delighted to have him.”
