Former Dundalk and Shamrock Rovers striker Ciaran Kilduff has been appointed as boss of Women’s Premier Division side Athlone Town.

Kilduff retired from League of Ireland football at the end of the 2020 Premier Division campaign after suffering relegation with Shelbourne.

And since then the former striker worked as a coach with Maynooth University Town in the Leinster Senior League.

However, he has now been unveiled as Athlone Town’s new boss in the Women’s top-flight following Tommy Hewitt’s exit last week.

“I’m delighted to be here and to get this opportunity to manage at the top level of Women’s football,” Kilduff explained.

“I’m looking forward to getting started with the girls.

“We have a game at the weekend with Linfield which will be an ideal opportunity to see them in competitive action before the break.

“We can then develop our plan of action for the second half of the season.”

Athlone Town are currently seventh in the Women’s top-flight and are unlikely to advance from their All-Island Cup group.

They are currently last in the standings, level on points with Linfield while also being three points behind Shelbourne and Galway United at the top.
