Aston Villa has announced that captain John McGinn has signed a new, long-term contract with the club, extending his tenure until 2027.

McGinn, a crucial part of the Villa team, signed with the club in the summer of 2018 from Hibernian and has since been instrumental in their progression, helping to secure promotion back to the Premier League in 2019.

The midfielder has endeared himself to the fans and was named club captain last summer. On the international stage, McGinn is a stalwart in Scotland's midfield.

Following the announcement, McGinn expressed his excitement about his future with Aston Villa, setting his sights firmly on achieving even more with the club.

"If we perform like we did in the second half of the season, there’s no reason why we can’t compete for trophies," McGinn said.

"That’s what the club needs to aim for. We need to get success back – European football is part of that but the club needs trophies. The fans crave it.”

Reflecting on his journey, the Scotsman acknowledged the ups and downs but affirmed his love for the club and the successful moments they've experienced together.

“We’ve had some great moments. This season epitomised what everyone wants to achieve and showed the potential and ambition everyone has," he stated.

McGinn's time at Villa Park has been marked by 183 appearances and memorable performances, including scoring the winning goal at Wembley to secure the club's promotion to the Premier League.

Looking forward to the future, McGinn expressed, "I’m delighted to get it sorted, this is home for me now. I’m really excited to be a part of what should be a really exciting journey.”
