Chelsea has announced the signing of French international Christopher Nkunku from RB Leipzig in preparation for the 2023/24 season.

The 25-year-old, who has played for France on ten occasions, has signed a six-year contract, beginning on July 1.

Speaking about the move, Nkunku expressed his excitement. "I am incredibly happy to be joining Chelsea. A big effort was made to bring me to the club and I am looking forward to meeting my new coach and teammates and showing the Chelsea supporters what I can do on the pitch."

The French forward is eager to explore new avenues in the Premier League.

"Having played in Ligue 1 and the Bundesliga, I now want to play in the Premier League, one of the strongest leagues in the world. I am very excited for this challenge and will be proud to wear the Chelsea shirt."

Chelsea's co-sporting directors, Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley, are equally enthusiastic about Nkunku's arrival.

They said, "Christopher has proved himself one of the standout attacking players in European football over the past two seasons and will add quality, creativity and versatility to our squad. He has demonstrated his ability at the highest level with RB Leipzig and France and we look forward to him joining up with his new teammates ahead of the new season."

Nkunku began his professional career at Paris Saint-Germain after graduating from the renowned French national football academy at Clairefontaine.

He had a notable run with the Parisian club, taking part in three Ligue 1 title wins and two Coupe de France victories before moving to RB Leipzig in 2019.

During his time in Germany, he was a key player in the 2021/22 season, scoring 35 goals across all competitions and earning both Bundesliga Player of the Season and German PFA Player of the Season honors. He also played a crucial role in Leipzig's DFB-Pokal triumph.

This past season, the versatile attacker added 23 more goals to his tally, helping Leipzig secure a third-place finish in the Bundesliga and successfully defend the DFB-Pokal.
