Tommy Barrett has made a real signing of intent with the capture of exciting attacker Denzil Fernandes.

The talented winger has already won promotion twice with Shelbourne after breaking onto the senior League of Ireland scene with Cobh Ramblers in 2018, reaching the League Final in a midfield which also included Stephen Christopher with whom he will team up with again at Treaty United.

23 year old Fernandes had a successful underage career behind him by that point, after starring in a Cork City Under 19 side which won the National League in 2015 and subsequently competed in the UEFA Youth League the following season. The opponents in that 2015 final were Limerick FC for whom current Treaty captain Jack Lynch and midfielder Clyde O’Connell are now teammates of Fernandes on Shannonside.

After scoring three goals in the opening half of the 2019 season for Stephen Henderson’s Cobh outfit, Fernandes made the move to Tolka Park for the second part of the season- netting once as the Reds sealed promotion back to the Premier Division.

He featured regularly in the 2020 season as part of a squad which also contained another new arrival at the Market’s Field, in the shape of goalkeeper Jack Brady. However, injury prevented him making a major impact on Shels’ promotion push of 2021 as he only featured in seven matchday squads.
