First Division champions Shelbourne have announced two re-signings with captain Luke Byrne and JJ Lunney set for Premier Division football with the Reds in 2022.

Byrne is entering his fourth season with Shels and has made 56 appearances for the Drumcondra club.

“It’s a huge honour playing for this football club and I’ve loved it since the day I signed,” Byrne said, speaking to the club’s website.

“It’s a massive football club and it has been a huge part of my life. I’m very excited and motivated for the coming season under the new management team.”

Lunney joined Shels from Bohemians ahead of the 2021 season and played 21 times across the season.

“I’m delighted to have re-signed after a successful season in 2021,” Lunney told the club’s media team.

“I’m really looking forward to being back where we belong and am really excited to work under the new management team. We’re really looking forward to the challenge ahead.”
