Shamrock Rovers took a significant step to retaining their league title thanks to a 2-0 win over Sligo Rovers. Danny Mandriou put the Hoops into the lead after only 10 minutes before Aaron Greene doubled the Hoops lead with a delightful chip.

Having launched the ball out of defence, Greene controlled and offloaded the ball to Mandriou on the half-way line. Mandriou then returned the ball to Greene who charged goalward.

With Ed McGinty coming off his line to challenge, Greene executed a perfect chip to put the Hoops into a lead they never came under danger of losing.

The Hoops only need seven points from their remaining six matches to guarantee the title making a return to Tallaght.
