Cork City boss Colin Healy cut a frustrated figure on Friday evening as his side fell to a 2-1 defeat away to Shelbourne.

Two defensive lapses cost City a result – with Shels netting from a set-piece, and then also profiting after a misplaced defensive pass from Dale Holland.

And while there were positives from a Leeside perspective, Healy remained disappointed his side could not pick up at least a point.

“It’s very frustrating,” Healy told extratime.com reporter Oisin Langan after the game.

“We got back into the game after a great goal from Cian Murphy and to give away a goal like that – they’re a very good side – is very frustrating.

“But we’ve been here before. It’s a mistake again and we’ve got punished for it.”

City drew level early in the second-half through Cian Murphy – but that parity was wiped out after a Ryan Brennan strike that went past Mark McNulty following a Holland mistake.

“We created chances,” he added. “We had one at the end, but we didn’t take it. We knew coming up that set plays are something that they are very dangerous in.

“I thought we gave away one goal from that but when you give away a silly goal like that you’re going to get punished.

“It has happened a lot this year, and the boys need to learn. They need to learn that when you give players like Michael O’Connor and Ryan Brennan chances like that they’re going to score.

“We never gave up and could have got an equaliser at the end, but it wasn’t to be.”
