Aaron Dobbs re-joins Longford Town from Shelbourne

Recently promoted Longford have unveiled the signing of forward Aaron Dobbs from Shelbourne ahead of the 2021 campaign.

The Wexford native joined Shels ahead of the 2020 season from Longford, but he has since returned to the Red and Black after a year away.

Dobbs is formerly of Shamrock Rovers and after a spell at Tallaght Stadium, he would then join Wexford before joining Longford ahead of the 2019 season.

The 22-year-old – who’s birthday is today – made 25 appearances for Longford during the 2019 season.

During his 25 appearances for the Red and Black, Dobbs started twenty games and scored five goals, with his last goal for the club coming in the play-off defeat against Cabinteely.

“The opportunity arose to join back up and work with Daire (Doyle) and John (Martin),” Dobbs told Longford’s media team.

“It was a really exciting opportunity. There’s a great group of players there and a lot of the same faces are around since my last spell, so I know well the potential this group has.”

He added: “Since speaking to Daire ahead of this season, the ambition remains the same and that’s to be competitive in every single game whether it be the First Division last year or the Premier Division this year, the style of play doesn’t change, and Longford continue to play an attractive style of football.

“This was a major factor in joining back up with this great club.”

Town boss Daire Doyle also said: “I'm really happy to bring Aaron back to our club. He now has a year’s Premier football under his belt, and we feel he will be a huge asset to our group going into the new season.

“He knows how we work and the expectations that are required from him and we are all looking forward to welcoming him back into our group.”
