Wexford snap up ex-Sunderland midfielder Jack Connolly from Cabinteely

First Division Wexford have unveiled the signing of former Sunderland academy graduate Jack Connolly from rivals Cabinteely.

The 20-year-old joins the Slaneysiders after making a notable impression under Pat Devlin at Cabinteely during the shortened 2020 season.

While at Stradbrook the former St Francis youngster made 11 appearances for the Green and White’s, scoring once.

Formerly of Sunderland at both under-18 and under-23 level, Connolly has said that he is relishing his chance at proving himself at Wexford next season.

“I know a couple of lads down here, they spoke highly of the place so I can't wait to get started and hopefully the fans can come in and we can play in front of them,” he said.

The midfielder added: “I’ll be looking to hopefully dictate games and be aggressive when I'm not in possession and try to get up against people.

“This’ll be the first pre-season I’ll have in winter, being away in England before I was at Cabinteely.

“I’m looking forward to getting going straight away and get as fit as possible for the season, whenever it starts.”
