Cook left frustrated after Rovers loss

After his sides defeat at the hands of table toppers Shamrock Rovers, Paul Cook was left frustrated at several things in the second half. Must notably how his side's performance seemed to be directly proportional to that of the referee.

“No, we've lost, I thought we played well in the first half, in the second half we were nowhere near as good. It'll be interesting to see the two goals again, decisions from the referee but we won't harp on about the referee too much. We've given two soft goals away, a penalty which will be nice to see whether it's a penalty and certainly a corner, that I had a good view of, that is not a corner. The referee is in a great position but yet he manages to give it.”

The second half was dominated for large chunks by the Bit O'Red, but the only changes to the scoreboard were in Shamrock Rovers' favour.

“I don't think that, in the second half, Shamrock Rovers have had a shot at our goal. I might be mistaken on that. I don't think they've had to work our keeper, but they beat us 2-1, we wish them the best of luck in the league and we all move on.”

“We've been excellent in the first half a few times now, and we've still managed to lose games. There must be something dynamically wrong with what we're doing. That's Bray, Dundalk, Drogheda and Shamrock where we played well, we're leading the game and yet end up losing. We're going to have to seriously look at what we're doing right and what we're doing wrong, because we can't keep throwing leads away like we're doing. Putting ourselves in worse positions cause it's gonna end up in disaster.”

Cook took another parting shot before the conference ended. Visibly frustrated, his voice in tatters, his raspy tones limped on to tell us of his apparent bad luck.

“That's the first time we've lost in eight games, so to say we're having a bad time is not good. Our league form and our league position is not good enough. Tonight, we've played a very strong and good side, we've had a couple of clear-cut chances more than them and we end up losing 2-1. Does the referee have a major play in the game? For me he does. Are his decisions right or wrong? I don't think they're good. I won't slag them off too much but I'm not happy with the referees. The decisions they make are changing games.”
