Michael O'Connor signs for Waterford

Michael O’Connor has signed for Waterford for the remainder of the 2020 SSE Airtricity League Premier Division campaign.

The former Republic of Ireland youth international returns to Waterford after his spell with Linfield. O’Connor had been on loan from Linfield earlier on this season and his return to the club will only bolster Waterford’s squad.

Speaking to Waterfordfc.ie, the 21-year-old said:

“A couple of months ago I thought we wouldn’t return and I was disappointed to be departing as I felt things were beginning to click, both for me and the team. But with the return to league action here, I was only too delighted to get the call and didn’t hesitate in signing up for the rest of the season.”

Michael came through the ranks at Dundalk before moving on to Shamrock Rovers and Finn Harps. Michael sustained an injury when he faced Shamrock Rovers earlier in the season and has hopes to get back to full fitness “I took a knock against Rovers but I’ve recovered well and have been hitting the gym, focused on getting back. Hopefully, by the end of the week, I’ll be back to full training.”

New Waterford boss John Sheridan will look to have O’Connor when his side face Selbourne at Tolka Park in his first game in charge of the Blues.
