Tim Clancy and Kevin Doherty extend stay at United Park for a further two years

Drogheda United have announced that management duo, Tim Clancy and his assistant Kevin Doherty have both signed new two year deals with the club.

Clancy finished his playing career in 2017 with Bray Wanderers before taking up his first managerial job with Drogheda ahead of the 2018 First Division season.

He was joined by former Shelbourne manager Kevin Doherty as his assistant manager.

In their first season at the club, they lead the Boynesiders to the First Division play-offs, beating Shelbourne on penalties in the 4th vs 3rd playoff before then losing to 3-1 on aggregate to Finn Harps.

The pair stayed at the club going into the 2019 season and as it stands, sit second in the league with two games to play.

Drogheda are three points behind league leaders Shelbourne, with a +6 superior goal difference, with the two sides set to meet in what is the biggest game of the season for both clubs at United Park next Friday.

A Shelbourne win would give Ian Morris’ side the title while a Drogheda win would see the Boynesiders go top of the league heading into the final day of the season when Drogheda face Bray away and Shelbourne play host to Limerick.

Drogheda United chairman Conor Hoey spoke of his delight after Clancy and Doherty agreed their new deals, calling Clancy “the best young manager in the League of Ireland”.

"This is sensational news for the club. Tim is undoubtedly the best young manager in the League of Ireland.

“Along with Kevin Doherty, he has built one of the most entertaining teams we have had in years.

"Ahead of our huge clash with Shelbourne, this is a huge boost for the club and really augurs well for the future,” Hoey said.
