Saints acquire Corcoran as Bermingham re-signs

St. Patrick’s Athletic have announced the signing of Sligo Rovers striker Dinny Corcoran for 2016, while full-back Ian Bermingham has also re-signed for the Saints for next season.

Corcoran scored 12 goals in 28 games for the Bit O’Red in 2015, helping them secure their place in the Premier Division for next season with a ninth place finish.

The 26 year-old previously played for St. Pats’s U-20 side in 2007 before joining up with current Saints boss Liam Buckley at Sporting Fingal in early 2008.

There he won an FAI Cup while helping them secure promotion to the Premier Division in a spell that saw few first-team opportunities, the forward scoring four times in 30 appearances in his first season before turning out only six times in 2009.

The well-travelled striker then foresaw moves to Shelbourne, scoring 11 times in 21 appearances before straying further north joining Drogheda United in 2011 before marking his first stint at Dalymount Park the following year.

A short stay at UCD preceded his return to Bohemians where he established himself as one of the Premier Division’s top strikers, scoring 18 goals under the management of Owen Heary in 2014.

Heary would bring an abundance of his Bohemians side with him to the Showgrounds before the beginning of the 2015 season, with Corcoran going on to score 16 times in 32 appearances for Sligo Rovers.

Included in that number was Corcoran’s brace against his new club in late October of this year where the forward’s second half double all but secured Sligo’s safety in a forgetful final home game for the Saints at Richmond Park.

He is the Saints’ fourth signing of the off-season, following last week’s triple haul of Graham Kelly, Mark Timlin and former Ireland international Keith Treacy.

While Corcoran’s signing came on the same day as St.Pats announced full-back Ian Bermingham had re-signed with the club for the 2016 season.

It will be the 26 year-old’s seventh year at the club where he has won the Premier Division, FAI Cup, EA Sports Cup, President’s Cup and Leinster Senior Cup – also earning a place in the PFAI Team of the Year in 2012, 2013 and 2014.
