Delaney called up to Ireland squad

DAMIEN Delaney has been called up to Noel King's provisional squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Germany and Kazakhstan.

The Crystal Palace defender was originally left out but his inclusion this evening brings the number in the squad up to 26. Delaney was recalled to the set-up by Giovanni Trapattoni after starting for Palace in their Play-Off final win over Watford and played in the 4-0 friendly win over Georgia before featuring in the game against Spain in America.

The 32-year old has won seven previous caps. He made his Irish debut in 2008 against Serbia. His inclusion is a further blow to Darren O'Dea who has been overlooked by King.

Robbie Brady has been forced out of the squad because of a groin injury while Stoke City's medics will monitor Jonathan Walters this week.

The Irish squad will be trimmed to 23 following the weekend's games.
