Reigning EA Sports Cup champions Drogheda United will play First Division side Longford Town in the second round of the competition, in a draw that was made in the Football Association of Ireland headquarters in Abbotstown this week.

Last year’s beaten finalists Shamrock Rovers will face Dundalk in one of two all Premier Division clashes, with Bohemians versus Bray Wanderers the other.

Derry City, the most successful club in the history of the EA Sports Cup with ten successes under their belt, will face Finn Harps in an Ulster derby, while swashbuckling league leaders Sligo Rovers shall do battle with Mervue United in the other battle of the North-West.

2013 also marks the 40 year anniversary of the first ever League Cup competition to take place in Ireland – its first ever campaign in the 1973/74 season saw Waterford beat Finn Harps by a score line of 2-1.

The draw for the second round this year was regionalised, but the FAI have revealed that the quarter final will have an open draw – meaning anybody can meet anybody.

All ties will be played on either Monday the 20th of May, or Tuesday the 21st of May.
