Kieran Djilali signs for Sligo Rovers

Sligo Rovers have announced the signing of midfielder Kieran Djilali.

The 22-year-old joins the league champions on a one-year-deal, with an option of a further year. The winger has had previous spells with Crystal Palace, AFC Wimbledon and Portsmouth.

Having already featured for the Bit O’Red in a pre-season friendly against Castlebar Celtic, Djilali was unveiled to the crowd at half-time in the Setanta Cup quarter-final first leg win over Glentoran.

Speaking about his move, the midfielder said he is pleased to have joined Ian Baraclough’s men.

“I’m very pleased that the deal has been done. I feel like it is a great place to be and it looks like a growing club. It’s a club that is on the up and I think I can really enjoy my football here. When I came over the boys, the manager, the board and everyone made me feel welcome.

“It seems like a real family club, a place I can enjoy my football and get back to my best. I’m hoping to get a starting place as soon as possible by training well, playing well and the rest will go from there really.

“I want to retain the league here with Sligo Rovers and maybe win a cup or two along the way. Everyone is going to be out for us. I think the boys know that, but from what I’ve seen in training since I’ve been here is that everyone looks just as hungry as they would have been last season. It’s a good time be coming in. “

“I know quite a few good players have come from the League of Ireland to play in the Premier League or the Championship. I know that the standard is pretty high and I saw it for myself in the training sessions and the game I’ve played since I’ve been here. I’m really looking forward to being involved. I’m really pleased that I’m here”
