Setanta Cup - Getting to know Coleraine

A Brief History
Formed in 1927 when two amateur clubs, Coleraine Olympic and Coleraine Alexander, amalgamated and they took their place in the Irish League at the beginning of the 1927/ 28 season. The undoubted golden era for the club was under the 13 year tenure of former Celtic player, Bertie Peacock, when the team won the Irish Cup twice and the League Championship in 1974.

Last year Coleraine finished in fourth position in the league.

Honours
League Championships 1; Irish Cup 5; League Cup 1.

The season so far
A strong start to the league campaign, where they suffered only two defeats in their opening sixteen league fixtures, has been undermined by some erratic results against teams in the bottom half of the table. If they find some consistency they could yet equal last year’s fourth placed finish.

Setanta Cup History
Coleraine have only qualified once for the Setanta Cup in the 2009/10 season when they exited at the group stage.

Manager
Oran Kearney is fast gaining a reputation as one of the Irish League’s most dynamic young mangers. Appointed in 2011 he has galvanised and overhauled the side and his youthful squad narrowly missed out European qualification last season.

One to Watch
With twelve goals already this season Curtis Allen is a real threat in front of goal and the former Linfield striker is a handful for any defence.

Special Mention: Stephen Lowry, attacking midfielder with an eye for goal.
