Limerick continue 2013 squad building

David O'Leary and Paddy Purcell have both agreed terms with Limerick FC for the 2013 season.

O'Leary, who was voted Players' Young Player of the Year last season, has put pen to paper on a deal with the Blues. O'Leary travelled to Oslo with former manager Pat Scully with the FIFPro squad and upon return, has secured a contract with the newly-promoted Shannonsiders.

The Cork native joined Limerick in 2010 and has become an integral part of the first-team squad as well as a prime example of Limerick's youth policy. The 20-year-old midfielder helped secure Limerick their first trophy of last season; scoring the winner against Cork City in the Munster Senior Cup Final.

Speaking to limerickfc.ie, manager Stuart Taylor spoke of his delight to have O'Leary contracted.

“It is fantastic that David has agreed terms, he is a fantastic young player and a exceptional talent who sets the standards for young players coming through the system at Limerick. It's important for the future of the football club that we continue to keep good young players with David’s ability and attitude. He has a good head on young shoulders and he sees Limerick as a big part of progressing his career.”

Along with O'Leary, promotion-winning captain Pat Purcell has also signed back with the Blues. Purcell, whose current stint with Limerick goes back to 2006, will ensure a sense of continuity in the dressing room.

Purcell spoke of his excitement for the new season and what lies ahead. “I am delighted to agree terms. It's been a long term goal of mine to get promoted with Limerick. I have huge enthusiasm going into the Premier with the club and also playing at Thomond Park. I look forward to working with the new manager. It's an exciting time to be involved with the club, its going from strength to strength and the professional standards are improving all the time, who wouldn’t want to be involved.”
