Evan McMillan joins the Bit o'Red

Sligo Rovers have announced the signing of defender Evan McMillan. The 26 year old joins the Airtricity Premier Division champions for the 2013 season.

The former Bohemians man joins a Sligo squad that boasts a large number of last season’s league winning players. McMillan is delighted with his move to the North-West.

“It is brilliant to complete the move. There is a unique and enticing atmosphere to the club. When I visited Sligo last year, I looked at the facilities, the set-up and everyone I spoke to was extremely complimentary of Ian’s coaching style and his coaching technique. I feel the brand of football will suit my game.

"It was documented that I pursued options in the United Kingdom and it didn’t work out for a couple of reasons. I looked at the options here and for first the time I was not restricted in my choice of choosing only in Dublin.

"Sligo are the champions so there is no better place to be. It is different to Dublin clubs and I could have easily stayed at home with a team up here but I feel this is the best place for me. I move down this weekend and like all players that come here, the focus is very much on football. You train in the morning, you continue in the afternoon and everything is driven towards football. That was very appealing.

"The squad is very settled where the rest of the defence is in place and my task is to impress in training and show I should slot into the team. It begins on Monday when we start pre-season training and I’m excited to get going. It will be tough to continue to success the club has had in the last few seasons, but there is no reason we can’t to do it and I come here to give my all to make it happen and knowing this is the best club for my own career."
