Limerick part company with Scully

Pat Scully and Limerick FC have officially “parted company”, Extratime.ie can confirm. Despite guiding the Shannonsiders back to the Premier Division for the first time in almost twenty years, the Dublin native has now left the club after four years in charge.

After establishing himself as a top class, no-nonsense centre half on the pitch with Arsenal among others, Pat Scully returned home to try his hand at management in the League of Ireland.

The Dublin native's first post arrived in 2005 at Buckley Park where he guided Kilkenny to a very respectable fourth place finish in the First Division – just eight points behind eventual winners Sligo Rovers.

His massive overachievement caught the eye of Shamrock Rovers. The Hoops were in dire straits at the time, and upon surviving as a club, they had to fight their way back into the top flight. Under his guidance, Shamrock Rovers won the 2006 First Division at their first attempt.

Despite eventually finishing fifth in the Premier Division the season after, Shamrock Rovers and Pat Scully parted company during the 2007 season.

Pat Scully took over at Limerick FC in the 2009; losing his first game in charge to his old club Shelbourne at Tolka Park. He guided the Blues to a seventh place finish that season.

Limerick FC were part of a promotion push in 2010; eventually losing out on the playoff spot to Monaghan United. This cruel fate was to be repeated in 2011 when the Blues once more lost out to Monaghan for that third spot, despite themselves finishing just three points off top.

The 2012 season was the one most Limerick fans will look back upon as a turning point in the club's history and Pat Scully be remembered as the manager who guided them there. Despite losing four times to rivals Waterford United, Limerick FC won the First Division by four points. The 3-1 home defeat to Wexford Youths on the last day of the season was to be Pat Scully's last game as Limerick manager.
