Sligo Rovers vs Cork City

Cork City will be the visitors to the Showgrounds on Sunday as they take on Sligo Rovers, who will be hoping to bounce back from last week’s defeat to Shamrock Rovers.

Sligo Rovers have been playing with barely enough first team players to fill the first eleven and this week is no different for manager Paul Cooke. Sligo will be without the services of Seamus Coleman (Ankle), Steve Feeney (Hamstring) and Matthew Judge (Broken cheek bone).

Cork City were dumped out of the UEFA Cup this week after losing 6-2 on aggregate against FC Haka. Manager Alan Matthews will be eager to put that behind him and knows the best way to do that is to get all three points.

Speaking ahead of the game, Mathews told CorkCityFC.ie: “This will be difficult game for us, and we will have to respond to the challenge we face in a positive manner.”

Pat Sullivan and Liam Kearney will miss the game through suspension, but John O’Flynn should be available having returned from his ankle injury as a substitute on Thursday. Mathews told CorkCityFC.ie: “John came on in the last ten minutes against Haka, and he came through that unscathed. He has not shown any adverse reaction, so he will come back into the squad for Sunday.”

The game kicks off at 15:00.
