Byrne happy with life at Dundalk

Dundalk striker Jason Byrne believes that Ian Foster's men showed tremendous character to beat Galway United on Friday night, after letting a lead slip on two occasions.

The Lillywhites eventually won 3-2 thanks to an 87th minute goal from Shane Guthrie but Byrne, who scored Dundalk's second, knows that if Dundalk want to be challenging for a league title this season, they can't afford to let a lead slip when winning at home.

“The performance was a bit sketchy. We have got to kick out the small mistakes in the defence, but Galway were dogged tonight. We didn’t beat them at all last year when I was with Bohemians. They surprised us a bit going 4-4-2 tonight and it was a bit of a crazy game. We’re just happy to get the win,” Byrne told dundalkfc.com.

The Dubliner has netted twice in as many games for his new club since signing from last year's runners-up Bohemians, and is enjoying life at the Louth club.

“I’m obviously happy,” he said. “Probably some people think I’m just down here to finish off my career, but I have come here to win things. I’m enjoying my football at the moment. The Gaffer gives you the chance to express yourself and go and score goals, and that’s what I’m just loving doing at the moment,” said the 33-year-old.
