Cork Sign Trio

Cork City Foras Co-op have just announced the signings of three new players: Eoghan Lougheed, Mark O’Sullivan and Gavin Kavanagh.

Lougheed - a 28 year-old left-sided player - previously played for Cork City at youth level. O’Sullivan, 27, can play up front or in midfield and Kavanagh is a 24 year old ex-Crumlin United centre half.

Commenting on the signings, Cork manager Tommy Dunne said: “Eoghan [Lougheed] has experience of this division previously with Cobh Ramblers, and has been playing with Avondale recently in what was a very successful season for them. He’s a fit lad and can play at the back or in midfield.”

“Mark [O’Sullivan] is strong and he’s good in the air, and he is also an experienced player who can play in a couple of positions. He’s a player who has a lot of potential, and maybe didn’t get a chance to step up to the League of Ireland when a lot of clubs were full time, and I believe he will be a good addition to the squad.”

“I watched Gavin [Kavanagh] playing for Crumlin against both Avondale and Rockmount. He had a spell cross-channel with [Nottingham] Forest, and has been playing Leinster Senior League since he came back, winning five trophies with Crumlin this season. He’s strong, quick and comfortable on the ball as well, and I believe he will prove to be a good addition to the side,” added Dunne.

Cork lie sixth in the League of Ireland First Division, a massive fifteen points off runaway leaders Derry City, and it is hoped these signings help the newly formed club push for promotion come November.

“I’m delighted to have signed for the club,” said Kavanagh, “there’s only a kick of a ball between ourselves and the teams ahead of us, and I believe that a couple of good results would see us climb up the table and push on to get the club back into the Premier Division.”

Limerick FC visit Turners Cross this Friday after the mid-season break, with each of the new signings surely eyeing the tie as an early chance to prove their worth to the team.
