Tommy Barrett: 'The fourth official is shouting to the ref that it’s a red card and he is just not listening, I don’t know why he’s there if he can't make a decision from five yards away.'

Tommy Barrett’s Treaty United earned a scoreless draw at home to Kerry FC ending the rot of three consecutive losses in the SSE Airtricity League First Division last Friday evening in the Markets Field.

In a game that saw plenty of goalmouth action, Barrett was left frustrated in the belief that the big decisions of the night went against his side meaning that the Markets Field has seen 270 minutes of football without a home goal.

“I don’t want to be talking about refs all the time but the last few weeks we’ve had some horrendous decisions go against us and that changes the momentum of the game,” he said.

“I thought that we absolutely should’ve had a penalty in the first half the linesman is looking right at it, Mark (Byrne) gets the ball and the Kerry player goes straight through him.

“Second half,  Lee (Devitt) is through on goal and he clearly gets pulled back, the fourth official is shouting to the ref that it’s a red card and he is just not listening, I don’t know why he’s there if he can't make a decision from five yards away,” said Barrett.

The Shannonsiders now make the trip to fellow play-off rivals Bray Wanderers next Friday as they hope to end their six-game winless run. The sides drew 2-2 earlier in their first meeting this season in the Markets Field.

“Bray are another really good attacking side and they have some excellent young technical players, we generally do well against them so we’re confident enough heading up there next week,” said Barrett.
