Crawford names Ireland u21 squad and updated back room team

After interim boss John O’Shea named his senior men’s Republic of Ireland squad at lunchtime on Thursday, Ireland Under-21 Head Coach Jim Crawford did the honours for his squad at 3pm in Abbotstown.

Crawford named a 24-man squad for their UEFA U21 European Championship away qualifier against San Marino next week (5pm kick-off Irish time).

He has handed first U21 call-ups for Newcastle United’s Alex Murphy, Brighton & Hove Albion’s Mark O’Mahony, Drogheda United’s Andrew Wogan and Bradford City’s Calum Kavanagh
 
Under-21s captain Joe Hodge and Andrew Moran return to the squad with both players set to join up with the senior team ahead of the friendly against Switzerland on Tuesday, March 26.

Crawford also named his updated back room team after his goalkeeper coach Rene Gilmartin and lead analsyst Martin Doyle were drafted into the senior squad’s management team.  In comes former U21 goalkeeper and Chelsea assistant first team goalkeeper coach James Russell as well as Swindon Town first team coach and lead analyst Liam McCartan.
