Two days out from the start of the season, Shamrock Rovers have made their first new signing for 2024 with Fiona Owens joining Collie O’Neill’s squad.

The Offaly native played previously at underage level with Peamount United before making the move to Athlone Town.

In 2021, she made 21 league and cup appearances across the 2021 campaign and was the club's first choice right back the following season when they finished runners-up in both league and cup competitions.

“I am delighted to sign with Rovers for the 2024 season,” said Owens speaking to shamrockrovers.ie.

“The group and staff have made me feel so welcome and I'm excited to get back playing soccer with them after a long-term injury. Hopefully I can add to the already strong squad and play that they've built from last season.''

Head Coach Collie O’Neill said: “I am delighted to add Fiona to our ranks. She is a dynamic and attack-minded fullback who will bring great energy to the team.

"Beyond her technical abilities, Fiona embodies the mindset and determination that we look for in our players, making her a perfect fit for the team's ambitions.''
