Spain won the first ever UEFA Women's Nations League title after defeating France in Wednesday’s final to add that trophy to the FIFA Women's World Cup they won last August.

Nine players started this final who also stared in Spain’s World Cup Final win over England.

La Roja won 2-0 in Seville in front of a record breaking 32,657 crowd for a Spainish home women's international.

Aitana Bonmatí made it 1-0 scoring off Olga Carmona's low centre in the 32nd minute. Mariona Caldentey doubled their lead in the 53rd minute.

Speaking to UEFA.com after the game, Spanish striker Jenni Hermoso said: "We have to live up to being world champions. It sounds great, but it’s also a responsibility.

"The players know that we have to give our all in every game to defend this crest and our status as world champions. Today we once again got to celebrate, which I think we deserved."

It was Spain’s first ever win over France – the previous 13 games they had ten loses with three draws.

In the third – fourth placed play-off Germany beat the Netherlands 2-0 to secure Europe's third berth in the Olympic women's football tournament alongside Spain and hosts France.

Ireland have a one in four chance of being drawn with Spain in their EURO 2025 qualification group - that draw is next Tuesday in UEFA HQ in Nyon.
