Bohs sign Filip Piszczek

Bohemians made an addition to their 2024 squad with the announcement that 28-year-old Polish striker Filip Piszczek has signed for the club from Japanese side, FC Imabari.

This is the eight-signing made by Declan Devine and brings his total squad number up to 23.

However, included in that 23 are Keith Buckley and Rob Cornwall who have long-term injuries and James Talbot who has taken a step away from the game.

The news about Cornwall suffering an ACL tear emerged after Bohs opening game last Friday and his absence and lack of defensive cover will mean that Piszczek will not be the last signing for the Phibsborough club.

Piszczek had a loan spell in Italy with Trapani, and he also played in the top tier of his native Polish league with Sandecja Nowy Sacz and Cracovia.

Bohemians manager Declan Devine spoke to clubs media team about how this signing will strengthen their attacking options ahead of their second game of the 2024 SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division season against St Patricks Athletic this Friday.

“I believe we have good attacking options now. Sten Reinkort got off to a great start scoring on his debut on Friday. We have great potential in Nickson Okosun, and strong options in James Akintunde and Declan McDaid as well.

"Filip adds another dimension of quality and experience to all of that, and we are really looking forward to working with him.”

The Bohs travelling support will hope they got their first glimpse of their new striker at Richmond Park this Friday as Piszczek will be available for selection subject to international clearance.
