Dundalk recruit Nottingham Forest prospect George Shelvey on permanent deal

Dundalk have unveiled the signing of goalkeeper George Shelvey ahead of the start of the 2024 campaign.

Shelvey, 22, joins the Lilywhites from Premier League side Nottingham Forest and has trained with Keylor Navas, Wayne Hennessey and Dean Henderson at the City Ground.

But he has opted to leave the comforts of the Premier League side in order to progress his career.

Shelvey has also had loan stints with Truro City, Wealdstone and Mansfield Town in England.

He was also on the bench for Forest's Carabao Cup semi-final loss against Manchester United last season.

"“Forest spoke to me when the transfer window opened and said that Dundalk were really interested in signing me,” Shelvey told Dundalk's media team on Tuesday.

“I just kept my focus on training and playing and tried to let other people sort it out but I knew in the back of my mind that coming here would be a big step for me.

“I spoke to a couple of the Irish lads at Forest and they told me that the League of Ireland is very competitive and every game is a tough environment.

“It’s time for me to play every week and show people what I can do and try and achieve stuff at Dundalk. It’s a massive club with a rich history and I can’t wait to get going.”
