With the start of the new League of Ireland Women’s Premier Division season rapidly approaching, the first official friendlies took place over the Bank Holiday weekend.

Champions Peamount United invited DLR Waves out to PRL Park in Greenogue, where they ran out 3-0 winners. Sadhbh Doyle, Ellen Dolan, and Becky Watkins scored the goals for the Peas, whose line-up revealed a number of players that had not yet been announced for 2024.

Jessica Fitzgerald anchored the Peamount midfield, and Jetta Berrill captained the side, with Dearbhaile Beirne and Freya Healy also in the starting XI.

The Waves' roster has been in place for a while now, so no surprises on their team sheet, but new signing Taylor White got her first start in a DLR shirt having moved across the city from Shelbourne.

In the Midlands, Ciaran Kilduff's Athlone Town hosted Ken Kiernan's Bohemians, and the two teams played out a 2-2 draw.

Gillian Keenan and Madison Gibson scored for the home team, while new signing Alannah McEvoy scored both goals for Bohemians.

Included in the Bohs' line-up was former Peamount and Shamrock Rovers defender, Tiegan Ruddy, whose transfer was officially announced after the game.

She was joined in Bohs' starting XI by newcomers McEvoy, Sarah McKevitt, Aoibhe Brennan, and Ciara Smith, with new full-back Aoife Brophy on the bench.

Athlone remains without last season's star striker Dana Scheriff - youth striker Hazel Donegan starting up front - and had all their new arrivals starting from the bench.

Casey Howe (Sligo Rovers), Kelly Browne (Sion Swifts), and Janaya Robertson from Shelbourne will all be in the famous blue & black in 2024.
