The young centre-half departs Scotland’s Hamilton Academical in a bumper deal for the player.

The 20-year-old Dublin-born defender returns to America after starting his career in the Seattle Sounders academy.

In his time in Scotland, he’s made eight appearances in Scottish League for Hamilton, upon signing from Salford City.

Indy Eleven’s owners have been tracking O’Brien since he signed for Claudio Ranieri’s Watford in the 21/22 season.

Speaking on the move Josh said, “This move back to America wasn’t something that was on my Professional Development plan for this year, but Indy Eleven are a big club with massive ambitions and the transfer opportunity to them was one that I really had to think carefully about.

“After speaking honestly and openly with my family, Gerry Strain and the manager at the club, I decided to take the opportunity to and I’ll now be leaving Hamilton for a return to the States.”

“I’m personally disappointed to see Josh leave our club” says Gerry Strain, Hamilton Academical Club Supremo.

“On behalf of Hamilton Academical F.C, I really wish him well in his career back Stateside and would like to thank him for his contribution, professionalism and his commitment to our club throughout his short spell in Hamilton.”

Last week, Hamilton added former St. Patrick’s Athletic goalkeeper Dean Lyness to their squad.
