Shelbourne prospect Luke Browne has completed a switch to Premier League side Crystal Palace from Shelbourne.

Browne, 18, has come through the ranks at Tolka Park in recent years and made three senior appearances for the Reds during his time there.

The Dubliner also spent the second half of last season on loan at Wexford in the First Division - making 17 appearances for James Keddy’s men.

He helped them secure a play-off position in doing so and will now join Palace’s under-18 side. Sean Grehan and Franco Umeh are already on the books of Palace's underage set-up.

Former Ireland under-21 defender Jake O'Brien has also come through the ranks at Selhurst Park after moving from the League of Ireland and Cork City before.

The centre-back has also represented Ireland at under-18 and under-19 level.

“It’s a very proud moment for me and my family to sign a professional contract at such a big club,” Browne said.

“I’m looking forward to the future and can’t wait to get going.”

Palace Academy Director Gary Issott added: “Luke’s an international player who has represented Ireland at under-18 and under-19 level and he has also experienced first-team football already.

“He spent some time at the club on trial before Christmas and within that period we saw the quality and character he possesses, which is everything we’re looking for from a player at Crystal Palace.

“He joins the U18s group and adds competition to the centre-half area of the pitch.”
