Millwall have signed Republic of Ireland striker Michael Obafemi on loan from Burnley until the end of the season.

Obafemi has struggled for game time at Burnley since joining the club in a permanent move last summer from Swansea City.

He has made just two appearances for Burnley this season in the Premier Leagye, both occasions coming from the bench.

The Republic of Ireland international started his career with Southampton, making his Premier League debut against Tottenham Hotspur in 2018.

Later that year he would go on to make his international debut for Ireland in Martin O’Neill’s last game in charge against Denmark.

The 23-year-old became an important player during the Stephen Kenny era where he scored important goals for his country against Scotland and Armenia in the Nations League campaign in 2022.

Obafemi will be hoping his move back to the Championship will re-ignite his career which has stalled the past 18 months.

“Michael is a player who can add a new, exciting dynamic to the squad and we are really pleased to welcome him to the club," said Alex Aldridge, Millwall's Director of Football Operations and Recruitment.

"Heading into this transfer window, adding additional strength to our attacking areas was one of our main objectives, and when Michael became available on loan, we felt we had a great opportunity to sign a forward who has proven his quality at this level.

With experience from the top two divisions, he has shown a great desire to join the club - we look forward to seeing him in a Millwall shirt."

Obafemi could make his debut this weekend for his new club as Millwall take on Preston North End at home on Saturday.
