Burnley has officially confirmed the loan signing of Ivory Coast international forward David Datro Fofana from Chelsea for the remainder of the season.

Fofana, 21, spent the first half of the 2023/24 season with Bundesliga club Union Berlin, making 17 appearances and scoring in the UEFA Champions League against Napoli.

On joining Burnley, Fofana expressed his enthusiasm for the new challenge.

“It feels very good to be here, I’m really happy," he said.

Fofana also recognized the opportunity for growth at the club, noting, "I think it will be a really good place for me to progress and it’s the perfect move for me."

Discussing the influence of manager Vincent Kompany, Fofana remarked, “To work with Vincent Kompany will be very good... I think this is the right place for me to make the next steps.”

Before his time with Chelsea, Fofana developed his skills in the Ivory Coast with Abidjan City and AFAD, and later impressed in Norway with Molde, scoring 24 goals in less than two seasons.

His move to Chelsea in January 2023 marked his entry into the Premier League.

Subject to the necessary approvals, Fofana is poised to be available for Burnley’s upcoming fixture against Manchester City on January 31st.
