Kacper Radkowski signs for the Blues

Kacper Radkowski signs for Waterford ahead of the new campaign following a loan stint at Bohemians last season.

The esteemed Polish centre back from signs Slask Wroclaw on a long-term contract with the Blues for an undisclosed sum.

Following a loan spell in 2023 at Bohs, Radkowski, who has caps at the U19 and U20 international levels for his native Poland, is no stranger to the League of Ireland.

The 22-year-old made 34 league appearances for Bohs in addition to four FAI Cup games during his debut season in the League of Ireland, acting as a stalwart back home for the Gypsies. The Polish defender also has experience of top flight football in the Ekstraklasa.

The 6' 4 defender is the newest addition to Keith Long's squad ahead of the team's 2024 return to the Premier Division.

Speaking to the Waterford media team, Radkowski said:

“I’m very happy to be here, and hoping it’ll be a good time together. My agent told me that there was an option to join Waterford. I spoke to the gaffer, and here I am. I’m here and I’m happy, and I hope it’ll be a good season together.

“I had a very good time [playing with Bohemians] last year; [It was a] good team, new people; and a new place for me too in Ireland. To be fair, I think at that time it was very good for me as a player because I played a lot of minutes. It was unlucky at the end of the season [losing the FAI Cup final], but it will be a good memory for me.

“I’m a warrior. I fight for every ball; I fight for every minute. I’m comfortable on the ball, and I’m excited to help the team.

“I hope it’ll be a good season for us, and I hope that there will be a lot of fans here at the RSC this season for every game just like in the Premier Division last season.”

Head Coach Keith Long spoke of his 'delight' of signing the Polish centre back.

“I’m delighted to sign Kacper and we’re really happy to have him at the club. We’re working hard behind the scenes and Kacper will be a really good addition to the squad.

“He’s a player that has been on my radar for a number of seasons and I’m really looking forward to finally getting the opportunity to work with him.”

This will come as a boost to Blues fans after the departure this week of top goalscorer Ronan Coughlan, who signed for Fleetwood Town in League One.
