Last season’s league top goalscorer Bohemians Jonathan Afolabi has joined Belgian side KV Kortrijk for an undisclosed fee from Bohs.

Afolabi had a stellar season in Phibsborough scoring 19 times in 37 appearances for the Gypsies, including the opening goal in the FAI Cup final.

He was named SSE Airtricity Players of the Month for July and nominated for the PFA Ireland Player of the Year Award.

His new club KV Kortrijk sit bottom of the Jupiler Pro League, 11 points from safety and having only scored a dozen goals in 20 games. They hope the addition of Afolabi will bring more goals for them and keep the club in the top flight

“It has been a pleasure and an honour to play for Bohs the last year and a half,” said Afolabi on signing for his new club.

“I’d like to thank the coaching staff, my teammates and all the fans for making my time here very enjoyable.

“I’ll be moving on with a lot of good memories and moments in my career that have helped me improve.

“Lastly, I would like to wish the club all the best going forward. I will be supporting the lads from afar”.
