Sam Sargeant signs new deal with Waterford

Newly promoted Waterford have confirmed that goalkeeper Sam Sargeant has signed a new contract with the club and will be part of the squad who will compete in the Premier Division in 2024.

Sargeant joined the Blues midway through the 2023 season in July having been on the books of Leyton Orient since 2015.

He made 32 appearances for the ‘Os’ in 2015 but was subsequently loaned out to various non-league clubs before arriving at the RSC in Waterford this summer.

The 26 -year-old Londoner went on to make 17 appearances for Keith Long’s side this season and he was in goals for the dramatic Promotion/ Relegation Play Off Final in early November when they beat Cork City 2-1

Sargeant spoke with the Waterford FC media team this week and said: "It’s a really exciting time for the club; we set out a goal last season to get promoted which we achieved.

"It’s exciting to see the club back where it belongs. Waterford is a great club with a great fan base, a real good family & community feel and to help get it back to where it should be, in the Premier Division, is really exciting.

"I think everyone should be high in anticipation and excitement for what we can achieve next season.

"It’s a group of lads, great staff, it was a joy to be a part of such a good team and to get success was just the cherry on top.

"I felt like I had a good season, I’m looking to build on that and help the club in any way to achieve more success in the Premier Division next season.

"It’s exciting playing for bigger prizes, against bigger opposition, and the rewards can be massive so it’s a really exciting time to be at the club.

"It’s a club that’s going in the right direction, everyone should be really looking forward to what we can do in the 2024 season."
