Stephen Kenny has drafted in James McClean for the Republic of Ireland’s qualifier away on Saturday in the Netherlands in place of the injured duo Will Smallbone and Festy Ebosele.

The Wrexham player was due to join the squad for Tuesday’s home friendly against New Zealand for his final appearance in a green shirt, but this afternoon McLean joined the squad for their flight from Dublin to Amsterdam for this weekend’s EURO 2024 qualifier.

Both Smallbone and Ebosele have returned to their clubs – Southampton and Udinese respectively – having been ruled out due to injury.
