In a crucial match that will determine the final lineup of the SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division for the upcoming season, Waterford is set to clash with Cork City.

The League of Ireland has confirmed that this pivotal Promotion/Relegation Play-Off Final will take place at Tallaght Stadium on Friday, November 10 at 19:45.

The match, which will be aired live on Virgin Media Three, is an important one for Waterford as they seek to make their return to the Premier Division after a win against Cobh Ramblers in extra-time propelled them to the final.

Following the conclusion of the play-offs, the draw named Waterford as the home side for the upcoming final, with Cork City as the away team.

Fans are advised to stay tuned for more information, as details on ticketing and seat allocations will be announced shortly.

After securing promotion in 2018 by winning the First Division, Waterford finishing 9th in 2021 and were forced into a relegation playoff.

The tension of that period was exacerbated by the sacking of then-manager Marc Bircham just days before the critical game against UCD. The aftermath saw Waterford losing 2-1, resulting in their demotion back to the First Division.

Cork City are no stranger to relegation either having dropped a division in 2020. The Rebel Army took two seasons to escape the lower tier but now face the challenge of a play-off to avoid an immediate return to the First Division.
